The Wickes Community Programme, a nationwide initiative, supports local community groups and charities by providing donations of essential products.
At Building Heroes, our mission is to empower veterans, service leavers, and military families through life-changing training and career opportunities in the construction industry. Thanks to the ongoing support of the Wickes Community Programme, we continue to provide hands-on, practical learning that truly transforms lives.
Wickes has once again stepped forward with a generous donation of essential workshop materials, including wallpaper, door handles, and dowelling, used in our Level 1 City & Guilds Diploma in Basic Construction. These contributions are far more than just materials; they’re the tools that help build new skills, boost confidence, and lay the foundations for successful civilian careers.
The Wickes Community Programme is a nationwide initiative that donates products to local community groups and charities across the UK. Their partnership ensures that our academies are equipped with the resources trainees need to gain experience in real-world construction scenarios.
Nicola Schneider, Deputy CEO at Building Heroes said: "The continued generosity of the Wickes Community Programme makes a tangible difference to the lives of our learners, enhancing the supplies for our programmes. Providing these essential materials allows us to deliver high-quality, practical training that directly aids our veterans and service leavers to develop skills, both for personal development and for the demands of the construction industry. We are incredibly grateful for Wickes' ongoing partnership and their commitment to supporting our mission."
This kind of practical support goes hand-in-hand with our wider effort to remove barriers and promote social mobility for those transitioning out of military life. The materials donated help enrich every learner’s journey from the classroom to the construction site.
Hannah Randle Hockin, Community Engagement Manager at Wickes said: "We are delighted to continue our support for Building Heroes and the vital work they do in empowering veterans and service leavers. We believe in the importance of equipping individuals with the skills they need to build successful futures, and Building Heroes does just that."
As a charity operating across ten academies and having graduated over 3,600 learners, it’s partnerships like this that enable us to offer top-tier training in construction, property maintenance, and green skills. With nearly 50% of our learners moving directly into employment, self-employment, or further education, the impact of these donations is clear.
To Wickes and the Wickes Community Programme, thank you for being a valued ally in our mission to ensure that no one who has served is left behind.
