Course details

This is course is planned to launch in Winter 2026. Learners will gain practical experience in a range of welding and cutting techniques, including beads on plate, lap, tee and corner fillet welds, pipe-to-plate joints, brazing, soldering, and thermal or plasma cutting. The programme will also cover equipment set-up, safe working practices, consumables, process limitations and practical assessment.

Alongside these technical skills, learners will develop the essential knowledge and workplace behaviours needed to operate safely and effectively in an industrial environment. This will include health and safety, communication, teamwork, positive working relationships, and workplace rights and responsibilities. The programme is designed to provide a practical introduction to the sector, build confidence and support progression into further training, employment or an apprenticeship.

You will then be sent an email with the details of your Assessor, a Learner Handbook and login details and guidance for the E-Assessor platform where you will complete your qualification.

The Assessor will contact you prior to you starting the course, to make sure you are happy and go through how your learning and assessment will take place.

You will be contacted by a member of Building Heroes to check eligibility and that the course is suitable for you.

You will be sent a confirmation letter from the Centre Coordinator in charge of the centre you are going to.

The Centre Coordinator will be in contact with you 8 weeks before the course begins with information regarding where the course is being held and other facilities near the course centre.

Once the course begins, you are supported by the Centre Coordinator to ensure the best outcome for you.
