Week four is really where we start to see everyone gain confidence and take on tasks in their stride. We've also seen some excellent results!
The week began with removing the recently tiled wall, which for some was a little hard to take! This allowed for the dry lining of the walls to be completed before the painting and decorating phase. Dry lining is an excellent way to cover any imperfections in the wall and really enhances the finished product.
The week also contained some carpentry work which focused on internal door fitting. One of the highlights of the course is when the learners get to visit an active building site. This was sponsored by Eaton Homes and offers an opportunity to get up and close and ask questions about the reality of working in construction.
It also demonstrates the various phases of a house build and the multitude of employment opportunities wrapped around construction (supply chain, site management, plant operatives – the list goes on).
